Such short spurs with the track terminating a short distance into the the platform are called 'dock' or 'bay' platforms. ( Like how a platform surrounded on all sides by tracks is called an Island platform, a siding surrounded on three sides by a platform is called a bay platform.) The small sidings used to hold inspection coaches, or temporarily hold other coaches (like the ones in BZA) are called dock platforms. Longer dead-end tracks present in stations which have through tracks ( like PF1,PF2 and PF3 of Chennai Egmore railway station) are called Bay platforms.
