Until 2016 it was believed that total internal migration in India involves 4.5 crore people. Analysis of ticket booking data revealed that this number is closer to 9 crores, almost double of that!!

Mumbai is bursting at its seams now, it has got a suburban network that is better than anywhere in country (ABS on entire system with TMS on main network, along with AWS for protection) but it is proving inadequate, we have a dozen metro lines in construction simultaneously that aren't going to change the situation beyond a certain point which means overcrowding is here to stay. With the economic situation at the moment, most of these people will return again, economy will start opening up, people will let down their guard again, start a new wave and then be back to square one.
