Pit Line are washing lines with open dumping pit at base, throughout the track.
- These pit are utilized to drain out sewage water (Washroom & Coach Interior Cleaning).
- Thorough Checking & Repairing Coach Base parts
- Newer Pit Line are equipped with water pressure cleaning facility, to wipe out exterior of coaches!!

#Is no of Pit Line dirctly proportional to no. of train originating??
Yeah, it does!!
But that depends on many factors like,
1. Pit Line Capacity & Efficiency- Single Pit Line with 24 Coach Handling Capacity can easily manage more trains, when compared with Pit Line of 10-15 Coach Capacity
eg. LKO Pit Line manages LKO Mail & Gomti Exp (24 Rake) at one shot, while SLN manages Sadbhawna (18-22 Rake) in two shifts
2. Primary vs Secondary Maintenance Depot - If the Station act as secondary Maintenance Depot for most originating trains, Low Count of Pit Line can manage increased numbers.
eg. NDLS/NZM is secondary maintenance point for most DRNTO & so no extra Pit Line required for DRNTO.
3. Train Run - Station having Intercity trains as originating/terminating point can manage with lesser Pit Line, while opposite for long running train's station.
eg. LKO vs LJN - LKO do have intercity as originating/terminating point & so is managing with existing Pit Line, while LJN got many long run trains recently & so got 5 Pit Line recently!!
4. Train Timing - If trains' departing time are close (withle difference between Arrival and Departure), with increasing no, then saturation point may achieved faster (with limited no of Pit Line). Then either
- Newer Pit Line need to be installed or
- Switching of train to nearby station or
- Weekly Train will remain Weekly or
- Non-introduction of train or
- Non-managed & unclean rake would become practice
etc etc

What is the use of "pit line"?Is there any relation of no. of pit lines with number of trains originating or terminating at terminus station?
